hobo and its friends, 2025

“Hommo”, “Hopo”, “Holo”, “Hoco”, and “Hobo”, 2025, acrylic on canvas, series of 21 pieces, divided into five subdivisions based on different colour ranges, dimensions of artwork: 40,6 x 40,6 cm

The series of fictional characters – intelligent non-human creatures whose forms are challenging to describe or identify. These adaptable beings can thrive in extreme conditions, overcoming the challenges posed by climate change, much like existing micro-animals such as tardigrades.

The names of these creatures in the series of paintings are derived from the Latin word “homo”, which means man or human. Inciuraite deconstructs this word by replacing the letter “m” with each of the 21 other consonants, resulting in names in alphabetical order, such as “Hobo”, “Hoco”, “Hodo”, “Hofo”, and so on. In total, she created 21 unique creatures based on variations of “homo”. One of the creatures is named “Hommo”, featuring two consonants, “m”, because the inspirational word “homo” cannot be repeated. These acrylic-on-canvas artworks highlight alternative life forms that are ever-changing, dynamic, and playful, showcasing the vital energy of our rapidly transforming world.
